1981 :
The College begins as a junior college (Pre-degree batches in Arts
and
Commerce only)
1982 : The College is shifted to
new premises (Pre-degree Science Batches
launched)
1991: The college is upgraded -
Degree Course in Economics started.
1993: B.Sc Chemistry is
sanctioned
1995: B.Com course is started
1998: The first Post Graduate
Course-M.Com is started
1999: B.Sc. Physics course was
launched.
2001: The College creates
history by scoring the highest pass percentage in
Pre-degree and degree courses.
B.Sc Zoology started
2003: B.B.A. Course started.
2004: M.Sc. Physics Course is
lunched
2005:
M.A. Economics Begun.

INSTITUTION
NCC
Our college has one NCC Company which is functioning under 5 KER
Bn NCC Changanassery as 7th Company with a cadet strength of
160. The NCC inculcates discipline and patriotism in the youth.
Physical training, weapon training, map reading etc- are part of NCC
activities. Regular parades are held on Saturdays. Girls also join
NCC activities here.
NSS
The college has at present two NSS units. NSS is intended to spread
feelings of national integration, Gandhian principles and boost work
culture and group dynamics. NSS is also a cradle for leadership
training. NSS conducts orientation programms and special ten day/3
day camps.
CAREER
GUIDANCE CENTRE
The College Career Guidance & Information Centre- Foresight - was
established in 1995. It helps the students to keep themselves
abreast of the changing Job Markets and helps them to get more
information on various areas of education. It also provides training
in personality development, competitive examinations etc.
SUBJECT
ASSOCIATIONS
All students of every Dept. are members of the respective Subject
Association. Subject Associations are intended for the all round
development of students. The Association conducts debates,
discussions, excursions, study tours and other cultural programms
apart from arranging seminars and workshops on academic matters.

COLLEGE CLUBS
1. Literary, Oratory and Debating Club.
The literary, debating and oratory club provides opportunities for
students to develop the arts of writing, public speaking and
debating.
2. Music Club
This club is intended to develop the musical talents of students.
Apart from vocal music, training in instrumental music is also
given.
3. Quiz Club
This club provides opportunities for students to be well equipped
for participating in quiz competitions.
4. Blood Donors' Club/ Youth Red Cross
The members of the club are carrying on the work of the Good
Samaritan by donating blood, thereby saving precious human lives.
All the students are members of the club.
5. Nature Club
This club helps the students to get awareness regarding the various
aspects of nature, protection and conservation of nature and
resources etc. Seminars, Quiz programms, tree planting and campus
greening ventures are undertaken under the auspices of this club.
6. Athletic and Health Club
This club functions in association with the Department of Physical
Education. It conducts fitness programms such as Yoga, Rhythmics etc.
7. Women's Cell
This is a forum of all women students. It conducts seminars and
programms to cater to the development of women so that they get
better out look and vision. Classes and training are given in
cooking, flower arrangement, fabric painting, embroidery, two
wheeler driving etc.

Arts festival & Sports
To exhibit the talents of students on a competitive basis, Annual
Arts Festival as well as sports and games competition are conducted.
For the conduct of the above, students are divided into 3 houses.
The house system is intended to create healthy competitive spirit,
team spirit and more involvement.

Parent Teacher
Association (P.T.A.)
The PTA takes special interest in the development of the college.
The PTA has been formed with the aim of fostering and promoting good
relationship among the members of teaching staff, students &
guardians. The PTA conducts counseling classes and seminars for
parents. After the examinations, review meetings are held to discuss
the academic progress of the students. The association takes keen
interest in the maintenance of discipline and high academic
standards. The PTA has launched many welfare schemes and has
provided infrastructural facilities including:

Loudspeaker System
Generator
Water Cooler
Retiring room for girls
Renovation of Basket Ball Court
Proscenium arch and curtain for college auditorium
A well furnished Seminar Hall.

Tutorial System
The College is the student's home away from his home and the student
is the most precious possession on the campus. In order to give him
more personal care and attention, tutorial system has been
introduced in the college. This is in line with the 'Tutorial
Session Norms' laid down by the UGC to promote interpersonal
relationship among teachers and students. For the conduct of the
system, the students shall be put into various groups, each group in
the charge of a teacher who will personally look after the students
of the group. The class teachers will act as co-ordinators of the
tutors of the concerned class. Separate periods have been set apart
in the time table for tutorial work. Both local and external
resource persons occasionally help students by providing them with
tips on personality development, leadership quality development etc.
Tutorial sessions also become the venue for exhibition and
development of artistic skills of the students too. The committee in
charge of the internal assessment will co-ordinate the tutorial
sessions work too.
THE STAFF COUNCIL
The Staff Council is a body constituted to assist the Principal in
matters of administration and discipline and the Council has
recommendatory powers. Apart from the various Department Heads,
there are two elected teacher representatives of whom one will be
the staff council secretary. Sri.Babu P. Varghese & Sri. P. N.
Harikumar are the elected members for the year 2005-06

M.G.O.C.S.M (Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Students' Movement)
The Students Movement has taken deep roots on our campus. MGOCSM
caters to the spiritual needs of the students. Under the auspices of
the organisation, prayer meetings are conducted in the college
chapel on all Fridays. X'mas Carol Service, One-day programms,
Pilgrimage to Parumala on 2nd of November etc. are also organised.
Mar Gregorios Chapel
The college gives great importance to the spiritual growth of the
individuals. The solemn, serene and beautiful chapel which lies in
close proximity to the college is open for people of any caste or
creed. Prayer meetings & MGOCSM meetings are organised at the
chapel. The chapel is also the venue of action of our Counselling
Centre.

The College Co-operative
Society
KG College Co-operative Society Ltd No. K-720 was registered on
30.11.1983 with the staff and students as members. The society
caters to the needs of its members by selling all types of
stationery, text books, note books, costume items etc. at moderate
rates. Photocopying services & Telephone facilities are also
available.
Yohannan
Institute of Computer Tehnology
The College has recognised the importance of Information Technology.
A full fledged computer centre has been established in the college
which offers courses of different nature to the staff & students of
the college. The college has taken earnest efforts to become 100%
computer literate in the near future.

Women's Hostel
Our College has a Women's hostel with all facilities. This was
constructed in 2005 with financial aid from U.G.C. Girls students
from far away places can be granted accommodation in the beautiful
new women's hostel.

UGC has sanctioned us Rs. 13,80,000/- for the construction of a
Women's Hostel. This hostel is dedicated to the memory of His
Holiness Baselios Marthoma Mathews I, the late lamented Catholicos
of the East, who took keen interest in the establishment and
development of the college. Sri. Oommen Chandy, Hon'ble Chief
Minister of Kerala laid the foundation stone of this hostel on 29th
January 2005 at a meeting presided over by His Grace Dr. Yakob mar
Iranaious Metropolitan. The hostel was inaugurated by Dr. Jancy
James the hon'ble Vice Chancellor on 14th Jan 2006 in the presence
of the hon'able chief minister, Sri. Oommen Chandy.
Hopefully, it will be inaugurated on 14th September 2005, the silver
Jubilee Day of the founding of the college. Prof. Annamma Varghese of
the Dept. of Chemistry will serve as the Hostel warden.
